Touchless Fossil Dig

client:

Hong Kong Science Museum

role:

UX/UI, interaction design, storyboard, gesture logic.

problem:

Touchless digging needed clear onboarding and reliable control.

result:

World map to dig, quiz, then 3D dinosaur details.

skills:

UX flow, UI system, gesture mapping, motion, documentation.

Context

A single player, 1080×1080 bilingual museum game that lets visitors explore nine dinosaur species by selecting a dig site on a world map, then revealing fossils through a layered “digging” interaction.

Challenge

Touchless control must feel obvious without staff guidance. The experience needed clear gesture affordances, stable selection confirmation, and safe fallbacks such as auto returning to idle after inactivity.

Approach

Built a strict interaction framework: language select, map selection, drag-to-dig across four layers, optional multiple-choice quiz, then dino details showing 3D skin, skeleton highlights, and site map. Applied consistent “hold to confirm” logic across pages.

Impact

Delivered a repeatable, low-error touchless flow with measurable rules: 9 selectable dig locations, 4 digging layers, 2-second hold confirmation, 10-second idle return. The system scales cleanly across two languages and supports replay via “play again.”
