Design an 8.5” × 11” black-and-white layout using the provided body text and an expressive custom title. Create 6 layout sketches on a 6-column grid, then finalize one design in InDesign. Focus on clean, well-structured typography tailored to a design-savvy audience.

I carefully read the provided body text to understand its tone and content. I then searched for a typeface that could visually reflect that tone while grabbing attention. I chose a font called Search, which features dry brushstroke textures: unusual, expressive, and perfect for creating visual impact. It immediately stood out and offered strong personality without sacrificing legibility, making it a compelling choice for the title in this expressive layout.
Using a 6-column grid, I sketched six layout options to estimate body text flow and title impact. I noticed generous white space in the composition, so I introduced an oversized headline to balance the layout dramatically. Each variation explores different vertical and horizontal alignments, aiming to achieve strong visual contrast while keeping the text readable and structurally grounded. The expressive headline anchors the design and guides the viewer’s eye across the page.
This final layout, built in InDesign, follows the selected 6-column sketch. I chose to keep the headline bold and oversized, using the Search typeface to express texture and character. Despite its scale, the title maintains balance with the clean, compact body text below, creating strong contrast and a compelling visual rhythm. The composition respects all typesetting rules while achieving a distinct, memorable impact aligned with the article’s theme.
