Design a hand-drawn symbol that reflects a given theme using shape only — no text. Develop ideas through research, sketches, and refinement, focusing on clarity, contrast, and visual strength.

Under the theme Wendigo, I explored its roots in folklore, geography, and symbolism. The mind map led to a focused concept: a horned demon that hunts in cold, isolated places — a winter fortress. This idea captures the creature’s hunger, coldness, and fear. Key features include horns, claws, and sharp teeth, all pointing to a predator driven by desperation and isolation.
This sketching stage explores the Wendigo through masks, horns, twigs, and cannibal symbols. I started with devil faces and satanic marks, then moved toward antler shapes and tree branches. Each form was tested for balance, contrast, and symbolic clarity. The goal was to build a strong, threatening shape that reflects hunger, cold, and spiritual danger — without using any text.
This final direction began with studying my own hand gesture, transforming it into a claw shape. That claw then became the horns of the Wendigo. Combined with a skull-like face, the form suggests a hidden predator in a frozen forest. The layout balances geometric structure with wild, branch-like curves to reflect both danger and cold isolation.
This final symbol uses dark red and brown to build a warning tone. Brown horns suggest bare branches under a winter night, hinting danger ahead. The dark red skull shows blood and death — Wendigo is near. The red moon strengthens this omen, creating a sense of fear and isolation. The design balances sharp form and negative space to deliver a clear, silent threat.
