objective:

Create 12 minimal black icons across 6 categories using a shared visual theme.

Carrot vs Carat

For Carat and Carrot, I started with two mind maps to understand their meanings — one focused on diamonds, value, and shape; the other on vegetables, health, and texture. I then explored how to visually connect them through geometric form. The final icons share a faceted, gem-like style: the carrot is simplified into a diamond-like outline, while the carat icon keeps a classic gem cut. This creates a clever visual pun through shared structure.

Jeans vs Genes

For Jeans and Genes, I began with separate mind maps — one focused on denim fashion, the other on DNA and chromosomes. I noticed both share a distinct visual: two legs or strands crossing. I used this as the core idea. The jeans icon shows overlapping pants, while the genes icon echoes the chromosome “X” shape, stylized to resemble folded denim legs — linking biology and fashion through shared form.

Holy vs Wholly

For Holy and Wholly, I began with separate mind maps — one tied to religion, faith, and the symbol of the cross; the other to completeness and totality. I chose the cross as a shared visual anchor. The “Holy” icon presents a single cross with spiritual weight. For “Wholly,” I repeated the same cross to fill the entire space, representing fullness and entirety through visual repetition.
